Providence, Rhode Island

Since its founding in 1636 by a dissident preacher named Roger Williams, Providence has been a bastion of religious and political freedom. The troop traveled south and eventually settled at the head of Narragansett Bay. Delighted to have discovered such a treasure, they named their new bayside home "in commemoration of God's Merciful Providence."

Today, Providence is the focal point for financial services, software and telecommunications, the creative arts, medical technology, electronics, retail, law, sports, tourism, culture and government. As has been recounted by national media outlets including the New York Times and USA Today, Rhode Island's capital city is bustling with lively theaters, compelling museums, galleries, antique shops, and bookstores. Not only that, each week, the popular NBC television show "Providence" portrays the city in soft and glowing tones.
