Leeann Tingley was crowned the Miss Rhode Island USA 2006 on August 28th, 2005, just eight days after she turned 24 years old. She will go on to represent the State of Rhode Island at the 2006 Miss USA pageant. Leeann has enjoyed running for the title because it motivates her to lead a disciplined lifestyle, with a solid goal in mind, to work hard for. This kind of work ethic has a domino effect in all areas of her life. Leeann hopes that in being Miss Rhode Island USA, she will have the ability to motivate other women to be their personal best, teach them how to work on networking skills, and show them how to discover their true self. She hopes to teach them through her own life experiences and she believes that anyone has the ability to achieve anything in this life, but it all starts with having the right attitude, motivation, and proper goals in mind.
Leeann grew up in East Greenwich, RI. She graduated from East Greenwich High School in 1999. Leeann then went on to pursue an accounting degree from Bryant University. She yearned to have a passion for her career, she convinced her family to let her switch to Cosmetology. She graduated from Arthur Angelo’s School of Cosmetology and Hair Design in 2002. Leeann has always had an eye for color and beauty. She always has had a passion for making other people feel good about themselves. Leeann became very successful after just one year in the field. Now 3 years later, Leeann is an independent contractor in a salon, where she currently maintains a self operated, fully comprehensive styling and image consulting business.
Leeann also wants to become a certified personal trainer. In one year, she hopes to open a full service day spa and wellness center. She wants to not only incorporate outward aesthetics but also will focus on internal well being, physical fitness, and an overall sense of living at your highest potential. She believes exercise and nutrition are large components of feeling confident about yourself.
Leeann has been an athlete her whole life and grew up the only girl of three boys. She always wanted to be a hockey player like her brothers, but her father signed her up for figure skating instead at the age of six. By the age of nine, Leeann was on her first synchronized figure skating team. By the 8th grade, she was competing annually at the United States Figure Skating Precision Team Championships. By 2000, she was part of making the sport to the Olympic level. They then switched it to Synchronized Figure Skating so it was applicable in all languages.
By consistently finishing in the top three, the RI team secured a spot on the USFSA national team, which would go on to compete for the USA in international competitions. In 1997, the "Superettes" went on to take the international title home at the Swedish Precision International. In 1999, they went on to take the USFSA National title home, something that had not been won on the East Coast in 16 years. Figure Skating consisted of 25-30 hours a week training aside from school. She would go on and compete 4 times a year, Sectionals, Easterns, Nationals and Internationals. They won numerous titles and all the competitions were preliminaries to the next one.
Leeann’s team was also an exhibitioner at the Ice Capades. They participated at many prestigious events, and traveled the world. Aside from skating, Leeann also was a varsity athlete in high school. She played field hockey, ran track, played volleyball, golfed and has gone skydiving.
Leeann also enjoys being involved with the community. She has volunteered with the Look Good Feel Better Program, which enables licensed cosmetologists to work with women going through chemotherapy and radiation treatments. They meet with the women and teach them how to regain their self confidence during this awful time. She hopes to stay involved with this organization through out the year and many years to come. Leeann also donates a free service once a month to a less fortunate little sister through the Big Sisters program of RI. She has been so fortunate herself and wants to be able to give something back to those who have not been as fortunate. Leeann also just finished the training and has become a Big Sister herself, in which she will mentor a young girl and be there for her when she needs to laugh or needs advice. If you know Leeann, you know she is an animal lover to the fullest. She has always had tons of pets and constantly donates to the North Shore Animal Protection League, where last year alone they found over 8,000 animals adopted homes!
Leeann hopes to be a helping hand whenever possible and hopes to leave a positive impact on everyone she comes in contact with. She is an quite accomplished at the age of 24 as an independent and successful businesswomen, an accomplished athlete, a health nut, and a positive role model for everyone. She does it all with her love for life and her insurmountable self resilience that keeps her where she is and knows where she is headed.
